anubis was not trapped in buried time. but instead chose to stay, until she could find someone strong enough to kill judgement – the only way to set it free

anubis shows drifter a vision of the tower

and she walks through it, to the other side

maybe this was just her way of telling drifter that opening to door was his goal, to reach the cell – which is, when they follow her through it, on the other side – but if you go to the ending, you’ll see that the door isn’t opening….

anubis was never the one who was trapped. whatever her relation to the cell and judgement by proxy, the gates were never closed to her; it was the cell itself that was prisoner to the land of buried time, and it wasn’t until judgement was freed in the only possible way left that the gates could close properly and without regret
