The international organization for transgender health, WPATH, just shot down the use of the term “Rapid Onset Gender Dysphoria”.
As they point out, ROGD is not a medical entity recognized by any major professional association:
“it is both premature and inappropriate to employ official-sounding labels that lead clinicians, community members, and scientist to form absolute conclusions about adolescent gender identity development and the factors that may potentially influence the timing of an adolescent’s declaration as a different gender from birth-assigned sex.”
The term is actively used by TERFs and transphobic right wing extremists to invalidate the identity of young transgender people.
a trans woman’s who is absolutely correct: cis wlw need to examine how they view trans women and it’s very hurtful that they view trans women as innately more masculine
some terf who missed the point entirely: OH SO YOURE GONNA FORCE ME TO TOUCH YOUR GENITALS THAT I HAVE A PRECONCIEVED NOTION OF? YOU WANT ME TO FUCK YOU? YOU ARE GUILT TRIPPING ME INTO A SEX WITH THIS VERY POST!!! YOU WANT TO HAVE SEX WITH ME PERSONALLY RIGHT NOW! UR SO EVIL BECAUSE THE ONLY THING THIS POST COULD MEAN IS THAT YOU FEEL ENTITLED TO SEX WITH ME PERSONALLY
This is painfully fucking accurate.
And yet another brilliant example of terfs proving the OP right in the reblogs.
You know how str8 women are convinced every lesbian’s obssessed with them and wants to have sex? That’s terfs with trans women.
there are a loooooooooot more trans kids pretending to be cis than there are cis kids pretending to be trans
my point with this post is that people should stop crying about “oh my goodness!!!!! there are SO MANY fake trans kids I don’t know what to do!!!!” when in reality it’s either a) kids exploring their identities and discovering that they’re wrong or b) kids exploring their identities and later realizing that yes, they are in fact trans people.
it’s a fake-ass hypothetical problem based in internalized transphobia about what trans people “should” be like and a willingness to blame other trans people for medical gatekeeping rather than the medical community itself, and it’s a huge waste of everybody’s time
focus up, people. there are other things to worry about.
“genitalia associated with cis women are harshly stigmatized and policed as part of misogyny, which can lead to violence” and “not all women have vaginas and not everyone with a vagina is a woman” and “trans peoples’ bodies are harshly stigmatized and policed as part of transphobia, which can lead to violence” are not mutually exclusive factsx and in fact all of these things are very much interlinked, and should not be used as gotchas! against each other
Also, vaginas that belong to people who aren’t women (whether male, nonbinary, agender, etc.) are sites of gendered violence as well
