I just realized, weeks after listening to Ian and Rebecca break down Rose’s character, that the shadow Steven has been living under this entire time, the archetype he feels so pressured to embody—that of the wise, benevolent, nurturing, motherly leader—is the same damn archetype that Rose herself aspired to. They’ve chased it for different reasons, obviously, Rose to reinvent herself and Steven to live up to the Crystal Gems’ expectations. It’s a cool connection nonetheless.

It just occurred to me that the Big Reveal in the last Steven Universe bomb totally recontextualises the whole Mystery Girl thing.

At the time, most viewers read it as Pearl fixating on a human woman because she happened to kind of resemble Rose Quartz – but we now know that Pearl actually designed Rose Quartz’ physical appearance.

So it’s less “Pearl has a type because she’s hung up on Rose Quartz” and more “Pearl has a type and convinced Pink Diamond to spend the next six thousand years shapeshifted into the ideal image of that type”.

That’s… huh.

A friend helped me get the filesize small enough for a direct upload.

So here’s a direct upload.

that rapid-fire character development ending was awesome

ok legitimately this is such a good video because it gets across the general vibe of “this show is more than you think it is” without giving away too many specific spoilers, like I think this would be a good video to show someone who didn’t know what su was

This made me tear up tbh
