Hot Take:

Beau was genuinely being empathetic towards Caleb during the backstory reveal but, because she’s Beau, it all came out wrong.

Proof (any quotes are paraphrasing because i have no subscriptions and can’t rewatch, bare with me):

  1. “That’s fucked up. You do know that, right?” It looks like she means the whole ‘murder’ thing, but she’s talking about what was done to him. That’s why she searches for confirmation. She can already see he’s upset about the killing part, but she wants to make sure he’s also aware of how fucked up what they did to him was.
  2. Her push to help others who might be in the same position. The way she phrases it is along the lines of “stop it from being done to someone else” because, again, she’s stating she sees this as something that was done to Caleb, and the same way she sees him as a victim, she’s showing worry over potential further victims.
  3. “You may only cast the lights, but they help me see so that I can punch things.” >> translation for emotionally functional humans >> You disregard the good things you do for us, but to me they really mean a lot.
  4. “There’s nothing to be ashamed of.” This is the tricky one and most likely to be misinterpreted (see how Caleb laugh/cries in disbelief). Since she stablished awkwardly in the conversation that she sees this more as something done to Caleb than as something he did, I don’t think she’s talking about the family killing thing… she means there’s no shame on having been the victim of manipulation when he was in such a vulnerable position. She’s telling him that, despite his actions, he should not carry with this guilt as if this hadn’t been something that was pushed on him through lies and violence.

Idk just my hot take because I feel Beau is genuinely a good fucking person but she’s also awkward af and you can’t always tell, even if you can really see she’s trying to connect.
