So, I’ve been trying to figure out how the various powers in these episodes might be sorted into the 13 corridors mentioned in MAG 35. I think I might have it figured out.
1. Mr. Pitch (Dark Water, Rainer)- his darkness is always portrayed as “like ink”, and whenever he comes through , characters always mention stale water. 2. The Lightless Flame 3. The earth/Claustrophobia (The Governor) (Lost Johns, Underground…) 4. The Vast (Ex Altiora, Fairchilds) 5. The Stranger (The Unknowing) 6. The Spiral (Michael, Es Mentiras) 7. Mr. Spider (Raymond, Annabelle,) – might also represent the Hunter. 8. Alone (Lucas Family)
9. Famine/Meat (cannibal and meat episodes)
10. The Piper (
War/Savagery
)
11. The Hive (
Pestilence, Amhurst/Prentiss)
12. The End 13. The Beholder
I remember people had already come around to the four horsemen and elemental ideas, but I hadn’t seen anyone lay out all 13 yet, so there we go.
*(Edit: So we’re been tossing things around; currently it looks like the Spider and the Hunter exist as separate entities, bringing the total to 14. I’ll try to come up with a separate icon soon!
Also, adopting some of the names used by HumidNebula, fxktn, and others in the red string brigade on Reddit!)
“queer” is such a useless term. if i tell someone im bisexual, they know i am attracted to men and women. if a man tells me he is gay, i know he is a man exclusively attracted to other men. if someone tells me they are queer, it tells me nothing about them. it doesnt tell me who they attracted to. it tells me nothing about that person.
It tells me they’re trying to be a extra lil bitch and that I shouldn’t be friends with them
No, you probably shouldn’t, for their sake.
yall realise thats exactly the point, right
queer covers everyone who is noncis or nonstraight
it covers the identities you want to erase or disallow from the community
it doesn’t immediately tell you private information about someone’s sexuality or gender that you aren’t entitled to
and the person in question may not even know themselves, but queer is what they know they can always use if they’re not sure except they know theyre definitely not cis/straight
you hate it because it’s too inclusive and too broad. It’s supposed to be inclusive and broad. If someone tells you they’re queer then all you need to know is that they are in some way not cis or straight and other than that it aint your business. If being told someone’s identity is none of your business pisses you off, thats a you problem
Imagine saying you wont be friends with someone unless they disclose all details of their gender and orientation immediately upon meeting you and still feeling that you’re morally superior
HOLLOW ROADS. for the road trips where night is never ending, the scenery doesn’t change, and you can’t recall seeing another car in hundreds of miles.
Given my 13 powers organization here as the key, here’s my understanding of how all the episodes fit together:
Feel free to comment with things I’ve missed. 🙂
A few edits: 8. Whoops! Remembered to tack the spider on to Burned out. 11. Added Death. I do still wonder whether Beholder may be involved, given that the dreamer must watch. and a certain someone this episode mentioned “rare instances of two powers together,” so it opens the possibility of combination actors…. 51. Added the Air as a possible power for 51: the Giant is in Ex Altiora. and if one thinks about the connection between Freefall and High Pressure as “deep blue, it makes sense. This power may draw on agoraphobia and vastness, opposing the claustrophobia of the earth.
Much like its sibling show, Daredevil, Jessica Jones’ uses very careful and symbolic choices when it comes to lighting, set dressing, props, and wardrobe. But there are a couple instances that I noticed where the color significance went much deeper.
For example, what do the thumbdrive containing information about Kilgrave’s past and the sundress that Jessica was wearing when she realized that Kilgrave’s powers didn’t work on her have in common?
They’re both connected to Jessica actually having power over/against Kilgrave, and they’re both…
…bright…
…yellow.
Why is this interesting?
Because as anyone who’s taken a basic art class knows, every one of the 6 primary and secondary colors that comprises the color wheel has a color that is its opposite and complements it. And guess which color is opposite/complimentary of yellow… Yep. PURPLE. AKA Kilgrave’s signature color.
Just little details that I noticed that I thought were very interesting and clever. And they show just how well thought out this show is!
