Not only is Luke a proper phoenix for Asch to resent, but after Akzeriuth, he starts plucking out his own feathers from the trauma.  He usually does it at night when he won’t be seen, but Guy eventually catches on and does what he can to stop Luke and provide whatever reassurance he can.

Here’s some Basic Setting Info for the [ Phoenix Down ] AU:

Probably best summarized as “It’s basically just Tales of the Abyss, but everyone is potentially a shapeshifter. Nothing else really changes except as needed to integrate this concept into the setting.“

Additional setting details respective of this:

Each person can potentially shapeshift into a specific animal.

In modern times, the shape is not known until a ceremony is performed when a person reaches 10 years of age, which involves opening all of the fon slots. The kind of animal does not change after this.

In ancient times, shifting was unstable and possible at a younger age but could not be controlled.

Kimlasca of modern times considers this tradition barbaric and antiquated and forbids it.

Malkuth is progressive but embraces this aspect of life. Any Kimlascan nationals of Malkuth origin would do best to hide this ability.

Van’s kidnapping of Asch involves this ceremony, performed after Asch is replicated, after he sees that he had been replaced. Guy can transform; van conducted it in secret.  He uses his form to catch up with Luke early in the game. Luke’s form is awakened at choral castle when his fon slots are synched to Asch.

To shift, one must open all their fon slots, which briefly makes them more vulnerable. As such, jade’s fon slot seal locks his ability to change shape.

Natalia has this ceremony forced upon her after Akzeriuth as part of Mohs’s plot. She and Luke are accused of being imposters -filthy beasts who are spying for Malkuth.

I’ve included a few more images –

Natalia and Luke vs Kimlasca and Daath, after Akzeriuth, facing accusations.

Oh my, just what is Guy?  You’ll see soon enough.

Luke isn’t the first Mythical tier person Jade has seen. He knew another quite well, in his childhood, before she died.

Notably, Yulia Jue was a historically documented Mythical  (Uniceros).

Jade, on the other hand, is a Monster.  Well, he’d call himself one regardless, but below Mythic tier lies a very rare (but not QUITE as rare) tier of people whose inner creature is not a normal animal, but unlike Mythical creatures, there are no special powers that come with the package.  Largo is a black lion. What else were you expecting?

Oh man, looking forward to seeing more! This is super cool.
