World map of tradition of removing shoes in home. Green: shoes removed; Blue: shoes not removed.

I LIVE IN THE UNITED STATES AND IT IRKS ME THAT PEOPLE KEEP THEIR SHOES ON INDOORS! WHAT IF YOU WALKED THROUGH THE MUD OR DOG POO?

It’s common in America to keep your shoes on in the house? Wtf, why?! Like, even ignoring the fact that they would bring so much dirt and crap into the house (especially on carpets) but that just sounds so uncomfortable!

If you live in the city or the suburbs, it makes sense to take your shoes off. If you live somewhere rural, especially in the literal woods and especially with an old house under constant construction because things are always falling apart, it’s safer to wear shoes inside. That’s why my carpet is indoor-outdoor carpet.

This was the norm for many of my parents’ generation in the states, probably your grandparents’ generation. And my grandparents’ generation where I live would have had splinters in their feet if they took off their shoes inside. Keeping shoes on was passed down by observance, but it’s not automatic and not everyone does it.

Also I think a bra is less comfortable than shoes, just saying.

I keep my shoes on cause I hate the feeling of my feet on the floor and I live w a bunch of animals so constant paranoia that I’m stepping on stuff

Also wtf most shoes aren’t uncomfortable they just feel like clothes?

Also generally you dont walk through the house with your shoes caked in shit and mud? Like. You take em off and rinse them in the bathtub like a reasonable person? Like so long as you didnt trudge home across a field in the rain there isn’t much reason to take your shoes off.
